THE BOYS

The boys is an oil painting which evolved from taking lots of photos of my back yard. The composition came about from thinking about the images that I like and what type of narrative I wanted to convey. I love seeing the light coming through the typical urban fence and I love the curiosity of what’s over the fence in the neighbor’s yard from the kids. I wanted to play around with light and lines but also pattern. I wanted to see how I could create a realistic painting but over emphasize the pattern in the objects that we see around us. This is a much brighter painting than the usual ones and it has a much more contemporary playful feel. This is one of my first paintings in this style and I’d like to play around with this narrative style even further.
