This is Texas

This is Texas is an oil painting of a typical Texas scene. The vast, open plain, with a dark, looming storm cloud overhead is something that happens during certain parts of the year out here. The sky opens up to beautiful, powerful and dramatic clouds. This composition is inspired by our many, many drives around the state sometimes stuck in traffic and sometimes with no one else on the road. This is a state where you can drive for hours and hours and still be in it, passing livestock, ranches set back from the road and farm buildings on the horizon. Three beautiful longhorn cattle graze peacefully in the foreground, seemingly oblivious to the approaching storm but they know it's there and they will soon be inside. I wanted to capture a sense of peaceful tranquility, yet with a hint of impending danger. The sense of solitude and the vastness of the landscape are emphasized by the lack of any human presence… but we are there - just seeking out a storm shelter!
